The Benicia Old Town Theatre Group promotes live theater in Benicia by sponsoring two productions per year at the historic B.D.E.S. Hall at 140 West J Street. In existence since 1964, the organization has staged more than 87 plays in 44 years, from the likes of “Blithe Spirit” to 2010’s “The Great American Trailer Park Musical.”

Each July, Benicia Main Street hosts the Benicia Waterfront Festival. With the Carquinez Strait as the picturesque backdrop, Benicia celebrates its waterfront locale with two days of live music, craft beer tastings, tasty food, a vendor village, and kids’ activity area

Nightlife continues to evolve in Benicia with wine bars, upscale taverns and all types of music that can be found throughout town, including jazz, folk, blue grass and rock and roll. Regionally known musicians regularly play at local entertainment venues such as Upstairs at First Street Café, The Rellik Tavern, Kinder’s, Lucca Beer Garden, The Union Hotel Restaurant, and the Thursday evening Benicia Certified Farmers Market (from late April through October).

Under the direction of the City Council, the City of Benicia Arts and Culture Commission works with public and private organizations to create and promote art, cultural programs and activities within Benicia.
