“Where should we eat tonight?” Epicureans from all over the Bay Area won’t have to ask themselves that age old question, because for one night only in downtown Benicia, foodies won’t have to choose.

On Tuesday, August 23, 2016, ticketed guests will be able to taste the best of the best from 16 different Benicia restaurants during Taste of First Street. For three delectable hours (6-9 p.m.) local chefs will be serving tapas style samples of their menus, perfect for connoisseurs interested in tasting a little bit of everything.

Diverse, delicious, and all in one convenient location, Taste of First Street is sure to satisfy the most discerning of pallets. Whether you are looking for a new culinary delight or an evening out of the kitchen, Benicia’s eclectic food and wine scene will rock your senses. Now in its ninth year, Taste of First Street boasts a bounty of variety.

Keeping the mystery alive, Aroma Indian Cuisine will be surprising tasters with something special from the East. And long-time participant First Street Café will draw epicureans from all over to indulge in their fresh, seasonal menu. Known for its Hail Mary (a meal in a glass and Bloody Mary!), as well as a great small plates menu, The Rellik Tavern will also be serving samples of its food offerings.

There will be flavors from all over the world, from quiche to curry to barbecue. Benicia Main Street Event Coordinator Deborah Housman shares, “there is so much variety on First Street. What better opportunity to try so many different restaurants all in one night. We are challenging guests to taste at all 16 venues. Every year, people find themselves too full to taste everything because the portions are generous. This year we are giving away downtown dollars to 16 different people who turn in their completed tasting cards.” For more information on the giveaway visit beniciamainstreet.org.

Vino lovers, true to our Northern California roots, will have plenty of options. Each ticketed guest will receive two complimentary glasses of wine to pair with tastes. And while not all restaurants can participate in this year’s event, we encourage guests to drop into one the many wonderful bars and restaurants peppered throughout town to explore the many rare and popular wines available by the glass.

The participating restaurants this year include Aroma Indian Cuisine, Camellia Tea Room, Dianna’s Bakery and Cafe, Double Rainbow Cafe, Elviarita’s Mexican Grill, First Street Cafe, Forever Sala Thai, Kinder’s BBQ and Meats, Lucca Bar and Grill, Pacifica Pizza, Rookies Bar and Grill, Rosanna’s Bakery, Sailor Jack’s, The Rellik Tavern, Union Hotel and Venticellos Ristorante Italiano.

We suggest you get your tickets early, because this event is limited to 300 tasters. Tickets can be purchased online in advance for $30 each or two for $55. If the event doesn’t sell out, drop-in tickets will be available the day of the event for $35 per person or two for $65.
