Local Galleries Honor the Memory of 9/11
This Saturday marks the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, and the City of Benicia will be honoring the memory of the event during Benicia Art Walk on First Street, from 1pm-5pm.
While visitors this weekend will still be able to enjoy the fun & inspiring art galleries and breezy downtown experience of Benicia Art Walk, several of the galleries participating in the event will also be featuring photographs and art remembering the nearly 3,000 people from 93 nations lost to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the crash of Flight 93.
Flag Memorial
Benicia Fire Department will mark the anniversary by honoring the 343 firefighters and all those who perished that day with a flag memorial on the lawn adjacent to the gazebo in City Park, at First Street and Military West. Visitors are encouraged to stop by, honor, reflect, and share in this day.
Fire Department personnel will be there from 7 a.m. until sunset. Benicia bagpiper, Lloyd Christiansen, will offer a tribute at 6 p.m.
Free to Everyone
The Benicia Art Walk event is free to the public, and there’s always plenty of free street parking nearby.
