BENICIA, CA (DECEMBER 1) - The City of Benicia has launched ,, Shop Benicia , an eGift Card program designed to encourage people to support small local retailers in Benicia while providing the public with a safe and convenient holiday shopping experience. The gift cards can be redeemed at any participating business in the city.
“Shop Benicia lets small business owners compete with the sort of gift card programs offered by mega-retailers,” says Mario Giuliani, Economic Development Manager for the City of Benicia. “Part of what makes Benicia so special is our one-of-a-kind shopping experience. All our downtown businesses are locally-owned and unique -- no chain stores or franchises to speak of. This program rewards people for supporting the incredible shops, restaurants, art galleries, salons & spas that make up the heart and soul of our community.”
Cards appear on shoppers’ mobile devices, or may be printed at home, and are used just like a physical gift card for in-store or online purchases. Shop Benicia went live on Cyber Monday, November 30th. Cards can be purchased online at ,, www.VisitBenicia.org/ShopBenicia , where shoppers can also find a full list of participating retailers, updated as more businesses come onboard.
Shoppers can keep the bonus gift cards for themselves, or send them to loved ones via email or text message. Cards purchased never expire. Bonus gift cards rewarded by the city as part of a special limited promotion have an expiration date of February 28, 2021.
Participation is free for local Benicia businesses, who can sign up for Shop Benicia ,, here . The signup process takes only a few minutes, and includes custom-branded Shop Benicia eGift Cards, which can be sold on their company website, ,, Facebook pages , or through the Shop Benicia page, itself.
*Updated 12/14/2020: The Shop Benicia “ bonus ” eGift card promotion has been enormously successful. All Bonus eGift cards have been distributed and the promotion has now ended. Shop Benicia Bonus eGift cards expire 02/28/21. While this promotion has now ended, shoppers are may still show their love and support of local businesses by purchasing and redeeming Shop Benicia eGift Cards, which never expire!

Bakery Creates Life-Size Halloween Bread Sculpture From the Hit Show, The Last of Us Mother/Daughter baking team in Benicia, CA create eye-popping bread sculptures every Halloween, inspired by popular film & television characters An incredible mother/daughter baking team in Benicia, California, who last year made international headlines with their " Pan Solo " bread sculpture, have done it again! This year’s masterpiece is the even more ambitious " The Last of Crust ," a life-size bread sculpture inspired by the hit show and video game The Last of Us , starring Pedro Pascal. The “clickers” from the show, hand-sculpted and baked by Hannalee Pervan and her mother Catherine in Benicia's One House Bakery , are covered in more than 1,000 individually-created "mushrooms." The exhibit took over 400 hours of labor to construct, more than twice as long as "Pan Solo." The creature's man-eating chompers were hand-sculpted and modeled after Catherine's own teeth.
